Why Lowlines ...
We have always
maintained a very progressive herd of Registered Angus Cows. We appreciate them
for all of their classic "Angus" characteristics that has made them ideal for
our program. The only way we could see improving upon their overall efficiency
was to be able to run more of them on our farm. Jeff came across some
information on Lowlines and began to get very intrigued with what seemed like a
breed of cattle more efficient than Angus. We liked the consistency that the
breed represented and the integrity that the DNA typing provided. We were
excited about the possibility of expanding our opportunities without sacrificing
the attributes we valued in our Angus operation.
Overall, Lowlines are
able to provide us with the ideal product to meet our current and future needs.
They are hearty and rugged, homozygous black and polled, and we can maintain
three Lowlines on what we could previously maintain only one conventional Angus
female. With the increasing value of crop ground in our area and high feed
costs, it has become more significant than ever to maintain more cattle on less
acreage and less feed. Lowlines offer strong maternal traits, excellent
phenotype, and an exceptional retail product for mainstream, commercial, and
niche market opportunities. With the current economy many of the efficiency
traits that Lowlines posses have secured their place in the cattle industry for
the future. Lowlines also posses a carcass that is of a more desirable size for
most consumers and offers ribeyes that are up to 30% larger than what would
proportionately be expected from their carcass.
There is no doubt in
our minds that Lowlines are a perfect fit for us and for our industry now and
for many years to come!
